To celebrate Independence Day, the U.S. welcomed thousands of new citizens during over 195 naturalization ceremonies across the country. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) director emphasized their commitment to helping eligible individuals experience the freedoms of U.S. citizenship.
These ceremonies, held at significant historical sites, are part of the annual Independence Day tradition. This year, approximately 11,000 new citizens will be sworn in.
Additionally, President Biden’s recent executive order aims to make naturalization more accessible, offering temporary legal status and a potential path to citizenship for about 500,000 undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens.
Where Do These Ceremonies Take Place?
USCIS commemorates this event by hosting special naturalization ceremonies across the country, which this year include:
- George Washington’s Mount Vernon
- Battleship New Jersey
- Gateway Arch National Park in Missouri
- Fort Clatsop, Lewis & Clark National Historic Park in Oregon
