The Federal Skilled Worker Program just re-launched, and we are often asked what jobs qualify for this program. The jobs are found on a list called the NOC job list, or the National Occupation Classification. This list of jobs ensures that the definitions of various occupations around Canada are the same across the board, and is used for a number of different purposes.
Workers who wish to apply to immigrate to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Program need to have work experience in jobs that fall under specific categories on this job list. When these categories are brought up in the context of immigration, many people refer to this list as the Skilled Worker Job List.
Which Jobs are Eligible for the Skilled Worker Job List?
The NOC job categories for the Skilled Worker Program include Skill Type 0, Skill Level A and Skill Level B.
They do not include Skill Level C (Occupations of intermediate level, clerical or supportive functions) or Skill Level D jobs (Elemental sales or service and primary labour occupations).
The skill levels and types that do qualify for the skilled work program include management occupations, professional and related occupations, as well as technical, skilled trades and paraprofessional occupations.
Are you Eligible for the Skilled Worker Program?
To be eligible for the Skilled Worker program, you will need to have one year of full-time work experience within one of these occupations within the last 10 years, plus be able to pass the Federal Skilled Worker program points criteria. This means you need to obtain 67 points out of a possible 100 based on things like age, experience, education level and language proficiency.
