Can you obtain a United States work visa through an investment in a new or existing business? The answer is yes! You can obtain an E2 investor visa, which is a work visa, when you make a substantial investment in a United States business (new or existing).
Getting a U.S. Visa Through Investment
The investment needs to be substantial, although there isn’t really a minimum requirement. To give you an idea, you can expect to invest about $100,000. In addition, you must be from a country that has signed a treaty for the E2 visa with the United States.
Eligibility for the E2 work visa in the United States
To get the E2 visa, you need to have the money ready to go for your investment, and the investment itself must be in a business – not in something like buying a home or another passive investment. The investment must be in a business, and it needs to be an active investment that generates a profit.
The business itself needs to be at least half-owned by a foreign national who is also from a treaty country, and the business needs to provide more than enough for that foreign national and their family to live on.
