Quebec Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil has announced that they are seeking an exemption from the Canadian government’s moratorium on Labor Market Opinions for the food services industry. This is affecting all employers who are seeking foreign workers who are applying for L.M.O.s, Labor Market Opinions, in the food services industry. The exception is
hotels. Hotels are not affected.
Quebec Pursues Exemption to the LMO Suspension
However, the minister in Quebec is seeking an exemption to allow businesses in Quebec to continue to sponsor foreign nationals in the food services industry. I’m not sure that Jason Kenney will agree to this. So far, all indications are that he will not grant the exemption. We’re hoping that the minister in Quebec is successful, because this could serve as a precedent for other provinces.
Food Industry Suspension Exemption Benefits
The minister is working hard to achieve this goal in the best interest of not just Quebec, but of all Canada, in my opinion. There has been no word as to when the suspension will be lifted. Investigations are underway for some businesses in the food service industry, where it’s alleged that some abuse of the program took place in some restaurants. So, we’ll keep you posted on this L.M.O. controversy. Hopefully, this ban will be lifted, and stay tuned for more developments. Thank you, and have a great day.
