The recent changes (as of June 2014) to the Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act have already been contributing to the efficiency of Canada’s immigration system according to Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander.
On August 1st that new applications are being processed faster than ever due to the government’s overhaul of the Citizenship Act. The citizenship decision making process has been reduced from three steps to one and the number of decision makers has been increased so that the current backlog can be more effectively reduced. As well, as of August 1st incomplete applications streamlining the process even further. The government has predicted that by 2015/16 the processing times for citizenship applications will be less than a year and that the current backlog will be reduced by eighty percent.
