If you’re hoping to immigrate to Canada, this is the time to apply. Between our new government’s interest in making immigration more accessible and a more welcoming Immigration department, 2016 is looking to be a good year for prospective immigrants.
More Invitations and Lower Requirements
According to CIC News, Citizenship and Immigration Canada intends to increase the number of Invitations to Apply (ITA) to Express Entry candidates. A CIC policy analyst also says that the minimum score required for the Comprehensive Ranking System will decrease. Express Entry candidates must meet the minimum score in order to be eligible to receive an Invitation to Apply.
The Invitation to Apply and What Comes Next
Since Express Entry is an electronic process, the ITA arrives as a message in the candidate’s CIC profile. Once a candidate receives an ITA, they have 60 days to file their application. As CIC News explains, a single applicant will receive seven forms to complete: Personal Details, Contact Details, Study and Languages, Application Details, Representative, Work History, Personal History, and Travel History. If the applicant plans to bring dependent children or a spouse with them to Canada, additional information in some of these areas will also be requested (Personal Details and Study and Languages forms for children and Personal Details, Contact Details, Study and Languages, Personal History, and Work History forms for a spouse).
Furthermore, the information provided must be accurate and precise; for example, Emma Hughes, the first person to be admitted under Express Entry, points out that applicants must provide exact information about where they have lived over the past 10 years. Any complicated personal history, including past marriages and changes to the applicant’s name, may need to be clarified, and the entries made by employers regarding details of the proposed employment need to be correct and specific.
All of this can seem daunting, but help is available if you need it.
