Expected Improvement with a New Application Process for Parents and Grandparents
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada declared that the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program is due for some application adjustments as of January 2017. Canadian citizens who plan to sponsor one or both of their parents, or grandparents, for Canadian permanent residence status, are first obliged to fill out our application form. The online form will be submitted to the IRCC and will only be made available for 30 days starting January 3, 2017.
Following the 30 day submission period, 10, 000 individuals will be selected at random to submit a complete application. The persons submitting the sponsorship applications must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Any applications submitted by the persons being sponsored for immigration will be Rejected, as well as more than one application for the same individual. Applications by a Spouse will also be denied.
The Parent Grandparent Application Process
After the 10, 000 persons are notified that they have been selected for the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship, they will be granted 90 days to submit a complete application. The application packet and guide will be concocted by the IRCC, which will only be made available to the 10, 000 persons selected at random. However, the IRCC states that they will also be contacting the persons who are not selected and that they are welcome to reapply in 2018.
In previous years, person who applied for Parent and Grandparent sponsorship were assisted in a first-come, first-served approach. But the IRCC hopes that the new changes will amend any imbalances in the Parent and Grandparent sponsorship process.
