Government announces Quebec diversity policy
Immigration Minister Yolande James announced yesterday a new diversity policy for Quebec that provides measures to help ensure that new immigrants are aware of basic principles from Quebec’s Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms and the French Language Charter.
Government will welcome more immigrants with Quebec diversity policy
Starting in January 2009, immigrants applying to come to Quebec will be required to sign a declaration that they will learn French, and that they acknowledge “the common values of Quebec society,” including that men and women have equal rights and that political and religious powers are separate. Information sessions on “How to live in Quebec” will also be offered to newly arrived immigrants.
Quebec intends to further this diversity policy with a future upcoming program that will remind Quebecers about the value and rewards of welcoming new immigrants with warmth and tolerance.
