Canada is Second in International Happiness Score

The study was recently released by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Canadians Second-Most Satisfied with Income, Housing and Jobs

The study compared 11 different factors that are essential to people’s happiness, meaning Canada was second-happiest when it comes to:

• Housing
• Income
• Jobs
• Community
• Education
• Environment
• Governance
• Health
• Life Satisfaction
• Safety
• Work-Life Balance

Highlights from the Happiness Study Include

Almost three-quarters of Canadians between the ages of 15 and 64 have a paying job.

Canadians work 1699 hours in a year, which is less than the average for countries surveyed. In turn, a Canadian household in 2008 earned an average of $27,015 which is more than the average of the 34 countries in the survey.

Canadians are able to balance family life and careers, with 71 per cent of women returning to work once their children begin school.

Almost 90 pr cent of adults between the age of 25 and 64 have a high school diploma or equivalent.

The life expectancy in Canada is 80.7 years, which is higher than average.

Only 1 per cent of Canadians say they have been a victim of assault within the last year.

While across the world 59 per cent of people said they were overall satisfied with their lives, 78 per cent of Canadians said they were happy with their life.
