Important Update: Between October 10 and 23, 2023, IRCC sent 24,200 invitations to apply for the Parent and Grandparent Lottery 2023. The deadline to submit your application has now passed.
Canada’s Parent and Grandparent lottery began on October 10, 2023, and will remain open until October 23, 2023. In this time, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) intends to issue invitations to apply to 24,200 prospective sponsors who have expressed interest. These invitations will be randomly selected from the existing pool of submissions from 2020. IRCC’s objective is to secure 15,000 complete applications through this process.
If you filled out the interest to sponsor form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply for the PGP in 2021 or 2022, please keep a vigilant eye on the email address you provided during your initial submission in 2020. Additionally, don’t forget to inspect your spam folder, as IRCC’s invitation to apply may occasionally land there.
Eligibility for Canada PGP Lottery
The Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) stands as a critical eligibility criterion for the PGP, serving as evidence that a sponsor possesses the financial capacity to support the individuals they wish to bring to Canada through the PGP.
In every Canadian province or territory, excluding Quebec, sponsors who receive invitations to apply must furnish their Notices of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for each of the three taxation years immediately prior to their application.
For residents of Quebec seeking to sponsor their parent or grandparent, their income evaluation aligns with Quebec’s immigration ministry standards, rooted in provincial income requirements. Both IRCC and the Quebec government mandate a signed undertaking from prospective sponsors.
The duration of the sponsorship undertaking for parents or grandparents spans 20 years in all provinces except Quebec, where it encompasses a 10-year commitment.
If you don’t receive an invitation this year, an alternative option is the Super Visa.
