Canada investigating whether Visa Requirements necessary for Czech Republic
This month, Canada will be sending a group of experts to the Czech Republic to determine whether Canada can lift their visa requirements for Czech citizens. The primary purpose of this visit will be to determine how minorities in the country are currently being protected as well as to see if there would likely be a wave of refugee claimants from the Czech Republic as soon as the visa requirements are lifted.
In the middle of 2009, Canada imposed visa requirements on both the Czech Republic and Mexico. Instead of being free to travel to Canada, which people from the Czech Republic had been as of 2007, people from the Czech Republic now need to apply for visas. Canada imposed the visa requirements to reduce the large numbers of refugees coming from those two countries.
Since the visa requirements were imposed on the Czech Republic, Canadian-Czech relations have been strained.
