Applicants who fail their first citizenship test will now be able to rewrite their test instead of waiting for a citizenship judge.
How the Citizenship Application Process Has Changed
In the past those who failed their citizenship test were required to wait for months for an appointment with a citizenship judge who made a decision regarding their case. Today, applicants will be given their results immediately and those who pass will be scheduled for a ceremony.
According to Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney the demand for citizenship has increased by approximately 200, 000 citizens each year and he feels that this is a great way to welcome new comers into Canada.
Other Significant Differences
In addition, those who have previously failed their tests and were waiting for a decision from a judge are now invited to rewrite their test. Also, families no longer need to be approved together and therefore these changes ultimately mean shorter wait times for citizenship applications.
