Political and economic partnerships between Korea and Canada are strong, with leaders from each country making numerous highly-publicized visits to the other. Over 150,000 people of Korean origin live in Canada, with almost 5,000 new Korean immigrants coming to Canada each year. In 1994, visa requirements for visitors to both countries were waived thanks to an agreement between Canada and Korea, which increased the numbers of visitors from Korea to Canada annually almost 300%.
