The Canadian Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago is also responsible for handling visa and immigration processes from surrounding countries including Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and, until further notice, French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Marie-Galante, Martinique, Saba, St. Barthelémy, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten and St. Martin.
In 2008, over 1,000 people from Trinidad and Tobago were granted permanent residency status in Canada. Canada has had a diplomatic relationship with Trinidad and Tobago since the 1930s, and trade between the two countries exceeds a hundred million dollars annually.
