Citizenship and Immigration Canada extends consultations on Skilled Worker Program
Citizenship and Immigration Canada has decided to extend their public consultation on proposed changes to the Canadian Federal Skilled Worker Program until March 31st.
The questionnaire first asks how familiar the respondent is with Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker Program, along with what they would suggest be changed, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the Federal Skilled Worker Program as it is now.
Other factors that Citizenship and Immigration Canada is asking for opinions on include language proficiency for Federal Skilled Workers, if the program should be made more accessible to skilled tradespeople and technicians, redirecting the allocated points for different factors and reducing the potential for fraudulent job offers.

My suggestion? How about scrap occupation lists all together? As soon as they are issued, the needs to the economy change and they become quickly irrelevant. Rather move to a more employment-based model like the Provincial Nominees Programs. And have Service Canada ease up a bit on the restrictions in issuing LMOs while still ensuring foreign worker protection. Our demographics demand a robust labor force that just can’t be sustained by Canadians alone. Open the doors to skilled workers.
