Deportation From Canada – Procedure and Options
(Below is a transcription of this video)
Hi, this is Michael Niren, an immigration lawyer and founder of visaplace.com. Today I want to talk about deportation from Canada. There are many people facing deportation or who have been deported, but you still have options. It is very important to know what those options are. Basically, when you are facing deportation, you will likely be getting a letter from Canada immigration indicating that there is a removal date, where you have to go, and what time you will be leaving Canada. However, under the law, you may have appeal rights to stop the deportation and to fight it. It’s very important that you consider contacting a lawyer in deportation cases. These are very serious cases, and there are short time-frames within which you have to act.
Procedures and Options Regarding Deportation From Canada
In some cases, you can apply for what is called a stay of deportation. Stay means a request to a federal court judge to stop the deportation, pending another application for your status in Canada. So, depending upon your situation, you have to act very, very quick, and know what your options are. If you are deported from Canada, and if you are removed, you also have options when it comes to returning back to Canada. It’s not easy, because deportation orders mean, technically, you can’t return back to Canada. In another video, I will be talking about your options for those who are removed from Canada and who wish to return back. But, for those who are facing deportation, the first thing you have to do is to contact a lawyer, an immigration lawyer, who knows how to handle these cases. Don’t delay.
Are You in Need of an Attorney Regarding Your Deportation Case?
There are also situations where you may be detained or facing detention. Of course, that can be very difficult and dramatic. So, the most important advice is to get help. There are options. There are ways out. So, hopefully, this will give you some idea of what to do. Thank you, and have a great day.
