At the beginning of the month, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander stated that the first round of pool-topping Express Entry candidates is already making a significant difference to Canada’s labor market.
On January 31st, a total of 779 skilled workers (covering a plethora of professions) received invites to apply for permanent residency in the country. The applicants possessed either a provincial nomination or valid job offer.
Express Entry Program Getting Impressive Results
Here’s what Alexander had to say about the system’s success: “Express Entry is already getting impressive results in its first month. The fact that everyone who was invited to apply for permanent residence in this round of invitations already has a valid job offer or provincial nomination shows that Express Entry is working to fill Canada’s existing labor market gaps.” Many of the skilled workers were professionals in areas such as applied sciences, industrial works, construction and electrical trades.
Like so many others who have applied for Express Entry, the chosen candidates had previously created online profiles and expressed a desire to live and work in Canada on a permanent basis. CRS then ranked them by taking into account their qualifications, experience, age, and other factors. Additionally, candidates get extra points if they already have a job offer or provincial nomination.
Canada will regularly invite the highest ranking candidates from the pool to apply for permanent residency, and in the meantime there’s plenty you can do to increase your score whilst you wait for an invitation.
An Expedited Process
The Minister further said: “With Express Entry, highly skilled candidates with a high chance of success in Canada are invited to apply for permanent residence, bringing them to Canada more quickly and easily than ever before.”
Once candidates have received their invites to apply for permanent residence, they’ll have 60 days to submit their online application. Most applications for Express Entry will be processed within six months.
