Hi, this is Paula Holmes of visaplace.com. Today I’m going to talk about a new immigration policy called Expression of Interest or EOI.
The Expression of Interest Program
The EOI program is set to be launched in January 2015. The purpose of the EOI is to seek out people with skills that are in demand in Canada and to fast track them for immigration processing. According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, as stated on their website, EOI works in two steps.
Expression of Interest – Step 1
Step one – Prospective immigrants would indicate their interest in coming to Canada by providing information electronically about their skills, work experience, and other attributes. Individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria will then have their expressions of interest placed in a pool and ranked against others already in that pool.
Expression of Interest – Step 2
Step two – CIC would only invite the best candidates, including those with in-demand skills or with job offers, to apply for a visa. Expressions of interest that are not chosen after a period of time may be removed from that pool. As a result, application backlogs would not accumulate and processing times will be kept to a minimum. CIC will also assess applicants on a variety of other factors, such as education, work experience, and language ability, with a greater emphasis on the ever-changing needs of the Canadian labor market.
The government is working with provincial and territorial partners to make EOI a success. They’re partnering with Canadian employers as well, so they’ll be ready to find candidates in the EOI pool that meet their skill requirements when the domestic labor force cannot.
