More Immigrants To Canada Expected To Look West For Job Opportunities

By Michael Niren December 12, 2014 2 min. read

citizenship-act-bill-c-24Statistics Canada released a report last month with one clear message; the future of Canada’s economy and population growth seems to be headed towards the west.

The federal agency has been tasked with producing statistics that will help understand more about Canada and the big issues surrounding the economy and immigration.  Another major finding from the report seemed to predict that immigrants will heavily influence the country as a whole over the next few decades.

What does it mean for immigrants?

Well, if you’re considering immigrating to Canada, this report helps you to gain insight on the best regions of the country to move to, where you’ll have the best job prospects and chances of settling into a successful Canadian life.

In the past, many immigrants may have considered areas in central Canada, such as Montreal and the greater Toronto area, good places to move to. However, the prediction from Statistics Canada is that British Columbia, Alberta and the Prairies are now heading into a boom period with these provinces looking to increase the amount of immigrants in the upcoming decades.

Why go west?

Good question. The main reason more immigrants are choosing to move to the West is mainly due to the booming economy, with one of the focus points being the strong natural gas and oil sectors. Mining and construction are also particularly strong at the moment.

These industries have in particular been looking to recruit skilled foreign workers. With the boom now starting to spin, there’s now an increasing need for individuals trained in areas such as education, food services and healthcare. New and exciting projects and coming up all the time, and labor shortages have been expected, which is why effort is being made to acquire more immigrants to these areas.

New hope in the west

Here’s what specialist attorney David Cohen had to say on the matter: “New immigrants to Western Canada, both today and in the future, would not be settling in the ‘wild west’ of days gone by. Most of them would have the opportunity to move to some of North America’s most cosmopolitan and lively cities such as Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.”

Cohen claimed that even average-sized towns such as Fort McMurray and Saskatoon are on the up, with many newcomers and immigrants helping to further boost the economy.

According to the report, around 80% of net new Canadian jobs were created in Alberta in 2013, while British Columbia has witnessed an immigration growth of around 5% from just a year ago.

Visa place helped me with my daughter’s sponsorship 3 years ago. Last week I contacted them for some clarification on a different matter. It was about an issue which technically was a problem of CIC’s software glitch and had nothing to do with Visa Place.
Yet Reena Sandu was assigned for my case. she helped me with enthusiasm and showed no hesitation despite me being an ex-client from 3 years ago.
I was very happy that even after 3 years of finishing business, Visa Place were respectful of their clients. Special thanks again to Reena for her enthusiasm and support.
