According to this Winnipeg Free Press article, visitor visas to Canada seem to be becoming difficult to get – even for those who have gotten them before.
Winnipeg North MP Kevin Lamoureaux told the Winnipeg Free Press that, “Every week, individuals are denied an opportunity to visit for weddings or funerals. It gets very aggravating from a politician’s perspective. India’s a huge problem. So is the Philippines and the West Indies. On average, we will write eight to 20 letters a week asking for support for people to come from all over to Canada to visit.”
People from developing countries are most at risk of being denied a visitor visa to Canada for special occasions such as weddings or funerals, as well as to come over and help out sick of grieving relatives living in Canada. They are usually denied when immigration officials decide they may try to stay in Canada after their visitor visa expires.
With higher immigration levels, more people are coming to Canada to live and therefore more of their relatives will want to visit them. MP Lamoureaux is currently circulating a petition for visa reform to make it easier for people to come to Canada on a visitor visa.
