Visitor visas are required for many of the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to Canada every year, to ensure they are not at risk of remaining in Canada illegally and that they are not going to do anything that is prohibited as a visitor, such as working. 
Whether you need to have a visitor visa in order to be admitted into Canada depends on your country of citizenship. Some countries are visa-exempt, like the United States, meaning those citizens don’t need a visa to visit Canada. Other countries require visas, and a list of those countries can be found here.
Is obtaining a visitor visa for Canada difficult?
A visitor visa application for Canada can be difficult because Citizenship and Immigration Canada needs to know you are not a risk. You will have to prove many different things to them using supporting documentation.
One example is that you need to have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Canada, and you may need to provide financial statements to show this.
You must also be able to satisfy Citizenship and Immigration Canada that you will not overstay your visa, and that you will return home. You can do this by showing that there is a lot waiting for you back home, such as a family, a job or a house.
Some applicants will need to undergo a medical examination, while other applicants could require a letter of invitation from someone in Canada or both.
This is all in addition to the application form, which must be filled out properly and completely.
