As United States lawmakers are gearing up to reveal a bill that would give undocumented immigrants a way to attain legal status, rallies were held all over the United States in support of giving undocumented immigrants legal means of obtaining citizenship.Â
Tens of thousands of people all over the country participated in the rallies, which included one in Washington DC and another in the city of Atlanta that attracted over one thousand demonstrators.
Many of the demonstrators included farm workers and domestic workers. It is expected that the bill will be revealed in only a few days, and this could even lead to a vote on the bill before the end of May.
Bills to overhaul the United States immigration system and offer a legal means of citizenship to the millions of undocumented people in the Untied States have not done very will in the last few years, with one immigration reform bill failing in the Senate during 2007, and the DREAM Act not being approved by Congress three years ago.
There are an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
Back in January of this year, United States President Barack Obama said that there were political obstacles in the way to immigration reform, but he promised that he would put everything he had behind it.
