Canada has just launched a new visa program for entrepreneurs called the Start-up Visa. This visa is a great way for people with business ideas to enter Canada. This visa is expected to be very popular and there will be limited space every year until the visa is made permanent. It will be made permanent if this new program is popular enough. This program is a great way for those with special skills to use them to immigrate. This visa is different from the H1B work visa since it does not necessarily lead to permanent residency.
There are three main requirements for the Start-up Visa program in Canada:
- You must demonstrate that you have an intermediate knowledge of French or English
- You must prove that you have completed at least one year of post-secondary education
- You must secure minimum funding of at least $200,000 from a designated venture capital organization or $75,000 from an approved angel investor
The third requirement is the most significant to the process. After all, if you do not have secured funding, how would Canada know if you could start a business in the first place? If you are able to secure this funding, you can obtain permanent residency in Canada through your Start-up visa.
