There has been an immediate suspension on the fast-food industry’s access to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Minister of ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada) Mr. Jason Kenny has stated that these are very serious concerns, there will be an investigation of the allegations made about the program. There have already been suspended LMOs that allowed employers to hire temporary foreign workers. These employers were also black listed.
All new pending and new LMO applications related to the Food Industry will not be processed. They will also suspend all LMOs for any previously unfilled positions. Kenney is also warning that any program violations will and might face criminal sanctions. All current employers being investigated will face criminal charges if they have mislead the Canadian Government about not being able to hire within the Country. These criminal charges include fines and jail time.
Both B.C and Alberta have employed more Foreign workers than the rest of the country for every year since 2007. ESDC will continue to make sure that Canadians have first pick for all available Jobs. They will not tolerate the abuse of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
