Almost anyone who is looking to work in the United States will have to obtain a work permit or a work visa, and a requirement of most of these work visas is that you have a job offer already from a United States employer. The TN visa is no different, as all applicants for a TN visa will need a job offer.
But that’s not all. The job offer must be in a specific type of job, called a professional occupation. A list of these occupations is included in the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) job list for the TN visa.

The TN visa, like most United States work visas, is a temporary visa. This means that you will have to show that you have strong ties to Canada and will return to Canada when the work is over. You can do this with documents that show information about your family in Canada, your property in Canada as well as any employment in Canada. In addition, you will need to have a valid passport for the duration of your TN visa.
