New US Citizenship Grant created
According to a new fact sheet released on the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services website, US Congress has created a grant program worth $1,200,000 to “to support citizenship preparation programs for legal permanent residents.” This includes ESL programs, community outreach programs, education programs (e.g. teaching American history and other aspects necessary to know for citizenship tests), case management programs, etc.
US Citizenship Grant program will help permanent residents become naturalized faster
This grant program is aimed at helping disadvantaged permanent residents such as the elderly, abused women, and ex-refugees get naturalized as easily as possible.
It is very encouraging to see this kind of congressional support for immigration causes in the midst of all of the “Buy American” frenzy, and protectionist sentiment during these difficult economic times. I commend Congress for taking a step in the right direction and hope they continue in that spirit to help those prospective immigration still trying to achieve legal immigration status as well. The economy will thank them.
