Depending on where you hold citizenship, you may need to obtain a visa before you are allowed to visit Canada. Many people visit Canada every year, whether to go on vacation, act as a tourist or visit their friends and family. In order to do so, ensure that you are aware of whether or not you require a visitor visa.
Whether or not you require a visitor visa depends on whether your country is visa-exempt or not. A list of these countries is found here.
For example, the United States is a visa-exempt country, so American citizens don’t require a visitor visa to come to Canada. Bangladesh is not visa-exempt, so citizens of that country require one before they can come to Canada.
What is needed to get a visitor visa to Canada?
Along with the visitor visa application forms, individuals who want a visitor visa must satisfy several requirements. These include that you are healthy, as you may have to undergo a medical exam. You must also not have a criminal record or be a threat to Canadians or Canada.
A valid passport is required, and you may need to have a letter of invitation from someone in Canada.
In addition, you must have proof that you have strong ties to your home country that will motivate your return, such as immediate family, employment or a house. If Citizenship and Immigration Canada is not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your trip, you may not be allowed in.
You must also be able to demonstrate that you have enough money to fund your stay in Canada.
