After reviewing scores of application packages from students across Canada and the US, Niren and Associates has selected the recipients of the immigration law firm’s first annual scholarship for the fall 2013 school year.  Each year, the firm awards $1000 each to one Canadian and one US student enrolled in university in the fall.  The whole team at Niren and Associates is proud to announce the winners for 2013:  Jacquelyn Veraldi from Canada and Caitlin Hamilton from the US.
Niren & Associates’ owner Michael Niren created the scholarship to help deserving students achieve success, and believes that this year’s recipients are great representatives of North America’s future thinkers and contributors.
2013 Canadian Scholarship Recipient: Â Jacquelyn Veraldi
Jacquelyn is from North Bay, Ontario and is entering her second year of a double major in Peace and Conflict Studies and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo.
The two majors proved to be compatible for her two main interests: Â she has always wanted to be a lawyer, and is also very passionate about the world, its problems, and how to solve them.
2013 US Scholarship Recipient: Â Caitlin Hamilton
Caitlin was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and has entered her final semester of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing  program through the College of Nursing at the University of Arizona.  After graduating, Caitlin plans to become a registered nurse after taking the state board nursing exam.
With experience in the hospital and with children, she envisions working with individuals at a higher acuity, such as in the intensive care unit, the emergency department, or trauma, or within pediatrics at that high acuity level.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants had a writing assignment that asked the writer to express whether immigration helps or hurts the economy, is in keeping with an open and free society and whether the government is moving in a pro or anti immigration direction.  Both winners provided articulate, relevant responses, exposing their understanding of immigration matters, and as hard-working students worthy of a financial boost.
