There are still thousands of agricultural workers coming into Canada during the Coronavirus outbreak. Their employers are required to quarantine them for 14 days before they can go back to work. The Canadian government is providing the money for these employees to offset some of the cost associated with this inconvienence. The employeer of these farmer immigrants will be provided $1,500 per employee which can be used to cover the wages or the cost of space while they are in quarantine for 14 days.
These immigrant workers are required to be quarantined for 14 days to help stop the spread of COVID-19. They do not need to worry about a place to stay or wages since the agricultural minister announced this new federal funding. Marie-Claude Bibeau, the agriculture minister, announced the $50 million federal funding for these foreign workers. This will help Canadian agricultural companies keep their employees employed and healthy.
“I’m very proud of the strong and resilient food system we have in Canada,” Bibeau said. “Step by step we are giving our farmers and food processors the tools they need to continue their vital work.”
Around 60,000 foreign workers arrive annually to work on farms. If these foreign workers were barred from entering Canada completely the Canadian industry would not be able to survive this pandemic.
There are several steps being taken to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus including:
– Screening before leaving their home countries for any symptoms
– Screening at the Canada airport for any symptoms
– Mandatory 14 day self-quarantine before working
Come to Canada as a Farmer or Agriculture Worker Now
Due to many other countries limiting the travel in and out of their countries it is expected that farmers and producers are unlikely to get all the workers they need this year.
So Canada is looking for agricultural foreign workers! These workers will most likely receive $1,500 for the 14 day quarantine time.
