Are There Other Post-Brexit Options for Immigration in 2018?

The EU allows citizens to travel freely within the borders of the EU member states. Brexit will change this free movement. UK citizens living in the EU when Brexit takes affect may lose their UK Citizenship, while EU citizens living in the UK will need to apply for visitor or work permits. As a result, workers may wish to take explore other post-Brexit options for immigration. They may choose to take their talents to the United States or Canada.

How Does Brexit Relate to Trade?

In 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union. This move has been termed Brexit. The implications of the UK leaving the EU can seem murky and hard to follow.  A lot of the confusion stems from the current debate about whether the UK will have a soft or hard exit from the EU. A hard exit means that Britain will leave the single market created by the EU and as a result, people will no longer be able to travel freely across its borders. A soft exit means that Britain will remain in the single market and will have to allow free movement of people across it borders. However, the mass movements of people from poor countries to rich ones has been a major concern of single market critics. Britain’s Prime Minister, Theresa May, has ruled out the idea of staying within the single market.

How Does Brexit effect the Single Market?

The single market was created by the EU and is seen as one of the main advantages of being a member country. The single market allows the member countries the free movement of people, goods, and jobs within in the EU’s borders as if the member countries are a single state. The goal of the single market was to boost the economies. The UK will also be leaving the Custom Union, which eliminated tariffs and border checks between member EU countries. This will allow Britain to engage in its own trade deals. Therefore, a hard exit from the EU seems to be fast approaching. Despite wanting a hard exit, the government plans to use a transition period to move fully out of the EU. They are concerned that cutting ties completely and immediately with the EU would be detrimental to the UK’s economy. Many people, currently work in other locations besides their home country, will need to explore their post-Brexit options for immigration.

What Does Brexit Mean for UK Citizens Living in EU States?

Under EU regulations, UK citizens are allowed to live in member countries, work, or start their own companies. Once Brexit occurs, this will all change. The current concern is that UK citizens outside of the UK when Brexit takes affect will lose their UK citizen status without automatically becoming a citizen of the country they are residing in. They could, overnight, become third country nationals. These citizens would have to choose if they wanted to return to the UK before Brexit occurred in order to protect their citizenship.

What Does Brexit Mean for EU Citizens Living in UK?

There are approximately 3 million EU citizens living in the UK. They would face the similar situation as the UK nationals living elsewhere. They would become subject to UK immigration law overnight. These workers will need to decide if they wish to apply to immigrate the UK once the new laws go into effect or if they wish to explore new post-Brexit options for immigration to the US or Canada. EU member states might be interested in creating regulations that would protect the rights of EU citizens in the UK and the rights of UK citizens in the EU.

What Does Brexit Mean for Football and the Creative Arts?

The removal of free movement could affect other areas of UK life. Some claim that a 1/4 of the Premier League would not be able to gain work permits to play in the UK if they are treated like players from non-EU states. Critics respond to this argument by stating that we do not know if they would not qualify via the Football Associations Exceptions. Eliminating free movement has the potential to affect who can play matches in the UK.

Other critics of Brexit point out that eliminating the freedom of movement will hurt groups attempting to go on tour. Musicians would be required to obtain permits to travel to the UK or to the EU for themselves and their crews. They would also need to secure carnets which allow for goods to be transported across borders. Then there will be longer custom checks. The cost associated with this could become prohibitively expensive.

Visa place helped me with my daughter’s sponsorship 3 years ago. Last week I contacted them for some clarification on a different matter. It was about an issue which technically was a problem of CIC’s software glitch and had nothing to do with Visa Place.
Yet Reena Sandu was assigned for my case. she helped me with enthusiasm and showed no hesitation despite me being an ex-client from 3 years ago.
I was very happy that even after 3 years of finishing business, Visa Place were respectful of their clients. Special thanks again to Reena for her enthusiasm and support.
