One of most important step before immigrating or being a newcomer is your employment. Every year Canada’s employment rate for immigrants rise. This year in 2019, Canada has hit an all-time high for employed immigrants. This was surprising for many people because Canada has opened its doors for more immigrants but continued to employ more as well.
According to Global News, they believe the increase in employment for immigrants was driven by the country’s strong job-creation run. The job creation has encouraged Canadian companies to hire more people who usually find themselves in the margins of the workforce. Immigrants who have been living in Canada for less than five years fall into this category which helps the statistics for immigrant employment.
“The performance of recent immigrants on the labour market has markedly improved in recent years, especially when considering the scale of immigrants arriving in Canada every year,” reads the January briefing note, obtained through access-to-information law.
The Canadian Statistics recorded data for immigrants in Canada, male and female, between the ages of 25-54 years old, to determine the employment rate. Below you’ll find the employment rates for 2014-2018:
Canada has welcomed more immigrants in recent years — and the government intends to bring in more. It has set targets of nearly 331,000 newcomers this year, 341,000 in 2020 and 350,000 in 2021. With the previous pattern of immigrant growth and employment rate going up, immigrants have a positive outlook on the upcoming years.
